Ecopoxy 600UV is now called UVPOXY

I continue to test UVPOXY, which used to be called Ecopoxy 600UV followed by yesterday's test.

Today I see things differently.

ODORLESS: I wonder if yesterday's resin odor was due to the fact that the sample bottle had never been open until yesterday. While using  UVPOXY I hardly noticed any odor. If I stick my nose very close I could sense a scent of resin, but otherwise I didn't notice the general fume in the air. Today I would say "almost odorless." I need to use larger amount to tell if it is still odorless. Maybe tomorrow... 


BUBBLES: I find it a little harder to deal with micro-bubbles than other brands. 


CUSTOMER SERVICE: Customer service of this company is very poor. No one answers the call, and voice mail is eventually returned much, much later. The online store, at the time of my purchase, was disorganized. PayPal link was not only broken but also leading me to a chaotic place, where using PayPal as a payment was impossible. If Paying with PayPal was impossible, it would have been a sensible thing to remove that option instead of getting customers lost online. I pointed that out to them, and they were annoyed instead of appreciating my feedback.


It was several months ago.  I don't know if this poor customer service situation is remedied by now.
  

Ecopoxy 600UV

I bought a sample set of Ecopoxy UV600 while back ago, and I am finally testing it.
Here is what their web site claims:
"EcoPoxy® is the ONE green system that is odorless, *non-toxic, *safe, 100% solid, non-solvent, non-hygroscopic, non-conductive, versatile and price competitive. We have 26 years of industry experience and have put together "The Perfect Union between Science and Nature" in order to develop the SAFEST EPOXYavailable today. EcoPoxy® surpasses Southern California air quality standards. *Our resins, hardeners and top coats have an endless shelf life."


And here is what I experienced so far.


ODORLESS CLAIM: I still sense the same odor that I am familiar with. I think what it should say is "Less Odor" not "Odorless." My test mix is such a small amount, but it still smells as usual. Maybe less that usual? So far, I can't tell because I almost never mix this small amount.



MIXING AND POURING: I would say ecopoxy600UV behaved the same way as other products during mixing and pouring.  

DE-BUBBLING: This is where I see something different about this product. At this time, it is "much less order" compared to other products. The heat from the propane burner usually intensifies the resin odor, but this product seems it throws off almost no extra fumes by heat during this process.
Another thing I noticed was that the resin does not get as hot as it usually does during de-bubbling. So, I feel a lot "safer" at this point.

I am trying a new brand of epoxy resin

Ecopoxy is a resin that differs from all other resin I have used. I have a sample (UV600), but I have been unable to find time to test it yet.

This is what the manufacturer claims.

1. It is non toxic while using it.
2. It does not shrink in volume over time.
3. It does not have a shelf life.

Here is what these means, if their claims are all correct, as far as I am concerned.

1. I will not have red eyes and headache when using a large volume of epoxy.
2. There will be more freedom of designing my art because it does not cause warping over time.
3. This means that if I am not doing resin work for a while the resin will not be ruined.

Their web site sucks a little bit (bugs), but I am looking forward to testing this product. It's a bit more expensive, but I like what I am hearing about it. Stay tuned. I will eventually find time to test this and evaluate. It won't be soon because I need to sit on it to see how shrinkage goes over time, as well as exposing it to the Sun and see how yellowing goes.

This piece was also possible by the use of resin. Window screen painted red, resin drop, and some marble were used.

Frankly I may not enjoy being have to explain how each art was made. This is a section of a photo of an artwork that was actually a sculpture. This image consists of shadows of objects that are captured in resin sculpture and and the objects themselves. They are beans, grains, wild objects such as seeds, pine corns, and grass. The wild objects were picked up in Walnut Creek, CA. I liked it a lot and was not going to sell this for a while but my hair dresser bought this from me because he was seriously wanting it.

Now the original is gone and I am left with some digital images of it. This is just a fraction of what it was.

He says this reminds him of his childhood in the bay area. The objects I picked up in Walnut Creek, Ca were all exotic to me, for I am new to California, but to him, they were extremely familiar.
